SUBSTITUTE RADIO expanded, radicalized and popularized the topic of space control. With telephone interviews, in conversations with studio guests, through worldwide local reporting and traffic news and contributions from 15 international free radio stations, an acoustic dictionary for the strategic appropriation of space was created. Ersatzradio began on June 1, 2003 with a special broadcast, a live stream of the protests, demonstrations and blockades around Lake Geneva on the occasion of the G8 summit in Evian.
SUBSTITUTE RADIO broadcast on 104.1 FM around the clock with film retellings, music, but above all in-depth interviews on topics such as “control”, “law”, “simulation” or “migration”. The interviews that were recorded the evening before in the Villa Elisabeth for the KIOSK for useful knowledge were broadcasted daily between 6 and 8 p.m.
In addition, the SUBSTITUTE RADIO drives through Berlin every day and picks up passengers to talk. Everyone has places of memory and imagination and thus always lives in a personal “ErsatzStadt”. The passengers filter the space through which they move and present it: as auditory psychogeographic maps – from the point of boarding to the destination. The cab searches for places and paths where experiences have become concrete (in the sense of concrete = concrete!). During these space patrols, it naturally takes its passengers wherever they want to go; the only rule is: talk instead of pay! Driver and listener: Stefan Goeschel
